Local firm comprised of Mississippi natives saves and renovates Aubert Motors building, constructed in 1915, as rebuilding of Gulfport's downtown business district takes major step forward

Gulfport, Miss. (Lexis Nexis) March 29, 2009 -- Vaughn, Bowden & Wooten, a Gulfport-based law firm that handles a wide range of litigation, has relocated its office to the historic Aubert Motors building in downtown Gulfport.

The firm saved and renovated the building, located at 1617 25th Avenue in Gulfport, which was originally built in 1915. It is a key development in the rebuilding of Gulfport's downtown business district since the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

"As Mississippi natives and local residents, we have witnessed first-hand the tragic destruction caused by Katrina, but have also seen the amazing human spirit and resilience of the people in our community," said Tom Vaughn, one of the founding partners of the firm. "The fact is that a lot of businesses have moved out of the downtown Gulfport area and not returned, but we're here to make a very clear statement: Gulfport is back open for business and we're going to rebuild better than ever."

According to Vaughn, he and his colleagues, Ben Bowden and Eric Wooten, partnered with Lowry Development to restore one of downtown Gulfport's architectural treasures. The firm originally acquired the 10,000 square-foot building in 2006 and worked to have it placed on the National Historic Register.

The firm now occupies roughly half of the building and Lowry Development is developing the other half of the property into a unique mixed-use building with both office and residential space. In addition, the firm used the talents of Sandra Cumbest Design, to assist with the allocation of space for the new use of the building. Capitalizing on the unique architectural features of the building, they were able to merge the Spanish Revival style of the building with a modern, traditional interior.

Vaughn, Bowden & Wooten continues to be involved in a variety of litigation, including complex insurance litigation, real estate matters, automobile litigation and workers compensation cases.
