Miller, Murtha & Psoras Secures Multimillion-Dollar Settlement for Victim of Industrial Accident at Bethlehem Steel

Lutherville-based civil litigation and criminal defense firm resolves dispute with Keibler-Thompson Co. after jury awarded $3.2 million to plaintiff earlier this year

Lutherville, Maryland (Lexis Nexis) October 6, 2008 -- Attorneys in the law firm of Miller, Murtha & Psoras have successfully resolved a major personal injury case on behalf of a Maryland welder who was awarded more than $3 million by a Baltimore County jury in April.

In James Morris v. Keibler-Thompson et al (Case No. 03-C-99-008278), a jury had ordered Keibler-Thompson to pay Mr. Morris approximately $3.2 million for a crushed leg injury he sustained while working at Bethlehem Steel in 1999. The plaintiff was injured when a dump truck's air brakes failed and the machine rolled down an incline, seriously damaging his leg and leaving him unable to return to his job as a welder. Bethlehem Steel was a co-defendant in the personal injury lawsuit until the company filed for bankruptcy.

After the jury verdict was reached in April, post-trial motions seeking a dismissal of the case were filed by defense counsel, but attorneys Francis Lanasa and Jay Miller of Miller, Murtha & Psoras were able to successfully resolve the case with a multimillion-dollar settlement.

"We're very pleased with this significant result for our client, who suffered extraordinary physical pain from this injury and will never be able to return to his chosen profession as a welder," said Jay D. Miller, a senior partner at Miller, Murtha & Psoras. "Our firm has a proven track record of successfully representing individuals who have been the victims of work-related accidents, especially those who suffer catastrophic injuries, and we take pride in our ability to recover monetary damages that allow them to deal with the financial hardships typically associated with serious personal injuries."

Miller, Murtha & Psoras is a Maryland-based law firm concentrating in civil litigation and criminal defense. The firm offers high-quality legal representation in various areas of practice and in both federal and state courts.
